The Roberts Sound 23 DAB Radio is a pretty damn good DAB radio, considering the "old fashioned"-tag they've been given in the past.

The Roberts Sound 23 is an all-in-one mini hifi which incorporates a DAB/FM radio, a CD player and an SD card slot.

One thing you'll be suprised about is the quality of the sound, its pretty punchy for the size of the unit.

Even though its very cheap, you still get an LCD display and 20 preset stations and is portable.

Now the Roberts MP-Sound 41 is simply outstanding! I set a load of stuff to record on Virgin Media automatically, but there's often radio shows I want to be able to record - but with my crappy DAB I never get around to it - that's why I'm getting myself the new Roberts MP-Sound 41 DAB Radio.

It comes with and SD card slot so that you can not only record the chit-chat, but also the songs - something that Listen again on the Beeb doesn't do!

And if you're like my girlfriend that can set her alarm and still wake up an hour later, it comes with up-to 12 alarms! Hell yeh!

Pure Digital One Review

The Pure Digital One is an entry level DAB radio that won't dissapoint. It may only be around £50, but it's a radio that you'll be glad you spent the relatively inconsiderable sum on it.

It may be a lightweight DAB radio but you get your money's worth. The scrolling information bar can be paused to allow you to jot down any information you need.

Also, you can take it away with you, camping or on the beach as you can fit the "CargePak" to it which converts into a truely portable dab radio.

Of course you're not going to get a sound quality to rival the more expensive Pure Digital DAB radios, but its still worth the money.

Prices varie from £47.99 for a white version, £49.99 for the black and £52.39 for the pink. You can compare prices on the Pure Digital One DAB Radio.

Dualit Kitchen DAB Review

So I'm not the only one that thinks its a good idea to have a DAB Radio in the kitchen?

Dualit have come up with a nifty DAB radio specifically designed to have in your kitchen. It all depends on the style of you kitchen if you'll go for this metallic model or the wooden ones from Pure Evoke.

It is very easy to confuse it for a toaster when you're browsing sites looking for a DAB radio, but if you've already got a metallic toaster, what harm is it having a metallic radio in your kitchen?

But on to the features, it's a standard DAB radio with FM reception and has a small display to say what station you're on. In the kitchen I'm sure you're more interested in cooking that playing with the dials so you don't really need any more wizardry.

The main aspect you're probably interested in is it's ability to put out a good sound quality as you're baking bread or defrosting an Asda curry - the Dualit Kitchen DAB radio certainly get's a four star rating.

The only area I'm not so happy on is the price - £180 notes is a bit high for my liking. But if you're looking for a nice DAB radio to finish off your kitchen - you won't be disappointed. But John Lewis do it for just £149!

The Digital Radio Development Bureau has stated that by the end of 2007 21% of households will be listening to DAB. This works out to be around 6.6 million homes in the UK. Buy 2008 they believe it will be around 2008, in 2009 it will be 40% and by 2010 it will be half the population.

The two areas that they expect it to grow is mainly in the portable dab radios whilst there will be significant growth in DAB clock radios and DAB mobile phones.

It may be a dangerous move as I fully expect Apple to come out with a radio version in the near future.

Oooh it reminds me of the eighties so much that I've got my school bag ready and my mum's giving me spelling lessons!

The thing is that Roberts didn't want to do much more retro stuff but they've created another retro DAB radio by accident.

Again the Itempo PG-02 has a FM tuner, is main powered and an LCD display - yawn. But we can't expect everyone to like or need gadgetry DAB's. This is a nice simple DAB Radio for people that don't want to record live radio but do want the ability to pick up a wide range of stations. The downside is that audio quality suffers at relatively high volumes.

Research from Sony now suggests that a third of people now listed to the radio over the internet. With 15% listening to stations not in their normal reception area and 18% have downloaded shows from the station's website.

42% people liste via digital TV, 26% use a DAB radio and 21% using a digital music player.

The Eton Sound 102 is a strange breed. It is one of those from the "retro" style of DAB radios, but still looks pretty damn good. I don't like fussy gadgets and hi-fi's. I prefer the simple sleek lines of an iPod over those great big steroes with huge woofers and big knobs.

It has a very sensitive DAB reciever which should get you a good signal where other DAB radios perhaps wouldn't get them. The Eton Sound 102 also has a remote control and an auxillary input so you can plug your mp3 player into it.

Another electronics product has been made in pink to suit the female market. You could see it as patronising or just good, honest simple product development, but Revo have launched the Revo Uno.

Revo have launched a pink DAB Radio that can connect to your iPod, has an advanced alarm system (perhaps I should get one for my girlfriend, is water resistant and has a rechargable battery.

If you're buying for your daughter or girlfriend (ok and wife) then it's worth considering at just £69.95 from John Lewis (with a free 1 year guarentee).

Revo Pico+ DAB Radio

Wow! The Revo Pico+ is an awesome looking DAB Radio! And the wow factor doesn't stop at it's looks as it not only has both DAB and FM reception but can also act as a speaker for your iPod or mp3 player.

The Revo Pico+ also has an internal rechargable battery which lasts for about 8 hours which should be great for summer nights in the garden.

The feature we like the most is the "TimeShift" one where you can pause, rewind and record live radio and take it off with an SD card.

Vita Audio R2

The R2 from Vita Audio produces a fantastic 20w of sound from within it's walnut veneer (I don't understand why DAB Radios always come in a Walnut version!) and ivory gloss.

You can attach your MP3 Player if you wish as well as your CD player as it's got a 3mm socket at the front.

The prices aren't all that cheap at £219 for the Walnut and £249 for the Ivory model, but they're not all that bad looking and do the job!

Pure Evoke 2 Best Buy

Evoke 2XT Feautres

The Evoke 2 is possibly one of the best sounding DAB Radios on the market. There are 12 presets available i.e. 6 for FM and 6 for DAB which should be plenty good enough for most users.

We wouldn't recommend it for bedroom use as there's no alarm clock but you can use an external mains timer to do the same job, but we don't think many would want to do this.

You either use the mains or the battery option which requires 6 of the type C variety. But it does gobble up the power a bit. The batteries will only last for 18 hours of run time.

The features we do like is that you can use the audio out to run to Hi Fi Speakers or record transmissions to your PC.

DAB Radios Rating: 7/10

Perfect for: Office, Kitchen, Living Room.

Good Points: Easy connection to larger speakers and your PC.

Roberts Gemini RD 6R DAB Radio

We don't give out "Best Buy" awards easily, each DAB Radio has to earn it through ease of use and being feature-packed.

First off, the sound quality of the Roberts Gemini RD 6R DAB Radio is fantastic. And this generally the main reason why people by a DAB Radio.

Also it looks good, has loads of features and its buttons are placed far enough apart to be easy to use.

You also have 10 pre-set stations to use. So this could be five DAB and five FM.

The downside is that its not portable, you have to use it on a mains supply, there's no alarm clock or sleep timer, but you can change the bass.

The bit we like is the ability to pause and rewind live broadcasts and cave upto 35 minutes of radio but this depends on which station you're listening too.

The Alba TRDAB2830 DAB Radio is certainly at the lower end of the price range and most definitely one to avoid.

The sound quality is very low and has very few features.

You can run it on batteries or on mains. It has an FM tuner as wells as DAB reception.

A plus point is that its easy to use but that's because there isn't a great deal of functionality.

Here we list some of our favourite Portable DAB Radios. We look through the internet and news articles etc to try and find the best portable DAB Radios which have the features you're looking for but at cheap prices. Hopefully we've found some you like too. There are many DAB Radios that say they're portable, but when push comes to shove I wouldn't want some of them in my pocket on the way to work.

Sony are great at making portable audio devices and the Sony XDR-M1 Portable DAB Radio isn't all that bad either.

You can choose from either DAB radio or FM radio but one of the better features is its large display. You can also add in its easy to use design, 10 hours of playback and the remote control.

Pure Pocket DAB 2000 Portable DAB/FM Radio & MP3 Player
This isn't the cheapest portable DAB Radio player and we're not sure you get the best value for money with this one that you do with the Ministry of Sound DAB Radio.

The benefit is that you get MP3 player and can transfer music back and forth to your PC. You've also got TXTSTOR which lets you save scrolling messages. Another feature we like is that it has high-performance rechargable battery that comes as standard. Futhermore, it has tri-band, band III, L-Band and FM.

You get earphones and SD card, the batteries and a charger.

Roberts Retro Rambler 76 DAB Radio

Roberts have some nice little retro dab radios these days and the Roberts Rambler 76 is no different. It may not be my cup of tea as I like the more modern looking dab radios, but I'm sure there's a huge market for it.

The styling is made from Ash and leather cloth for the side panels and handle. And what's more, there's seven colours to choose from: red, black, aqua, green, blue cream and pink.

The Roberts Rambler 76 has both DAB and FM RDS wavebands and a slightly small digital display.

You've also got auto time set, auto tune, preset stations, rotary tuning and obviously volume controls. It can also be powered by batteries or via the mains.

PURE Digital: The Bug Too Review

The first Pure Digital Bug DAB Radio was a spash hit. This new one: "The Bug Too" looks set to do even better.

It's got all the features that were present on the original bug, but it's now got enhanced DAB digital radio technology which includes the "electronic programme guide" (EPG) and textScan. It's also got the new MPR3 hi-fi options for folder navigation and an MP3 radio alarm clock.

You're probably wondering what EPG is? Well it lets listeners browse programmes on a station or all programmes at a given time to select them for scheduled listening or get them recorded to an SD card.

And textSCAN gives you the opportunity to pause and control DAB scrolling text so you can note down the details. This is a handy feature as I'm often trying to sribble down the details of songs etc.

What's more, you can connect your original Bug Digital Radio to your PC via a USB cable, you can upgrade your existing Bug DAB Radio for EPG and textSCAN.
